May Bell Sunflower African American Folk Art Doll I stopped calling May Bell a rag doll because she has so much character that she falls more into the art doll category. This isn’t my usual type of doll but I have to admit, I enjoyed making her.

May Bell is a beautifully elegant art doll who is handmade and hand painted. She stands approximately 8 inches with a rust and gold flowering dress that falls at 12 inches. May Bell’s hair is up in buns on both sides of her head, twisted perfectly and able to hold ribbons or flowers if desired. Her accenting Anne Klein II sunflower brooch is removable and can be placed where desired.

Ophelia African American Handmade Rag Doll

Ophelia Rose- African American Rag Doll Ophelia Rose is an 18 inch doll with big, brown eyes and soft pink lips. Her hair is long and black. When sitting by a fan it whisks across her face lightly. She’s hand painted solid black but has gold and turquoise facial details. She’s got long eye lashes and a cute little nose.
All facial features were painted on after the initial painting of the cotton fabric.

Love Bianca Bunches African-American Rag Doll

‘Love Bianca Bunches’ is a handmade and hand painted rag doll that stands 9 inches tall and is wearing a red striped dress with a green checked scarf. Her scarf has a tiny button on it. Bianca has big brown eyes with long black eye lashes with gold star dust above them. She has dimples on her rosy cheeks. Her lips are painted soft pink. Your little one comes with lavender that I dried myself.

Lily with Lavender African-American Rag Doll

‘Lily with Lavender’ is a handmade African-American primitive rag doll shelf sitter. She stands about 9 inches tall and is wearing a hand sewn dress. The dress is made of a vintage handkerchief that I stained with spots of soft blue and hints of rose. The hand painted doll has super soft yarn hair, big brown eyes and soft pink lips. She also has the sweetest dimples ever.

Mariah, African-American Ragdoll

Mariah, the Handmade African-American Rag Doll is now available in my shop on Etsy. Please see the sidebar for the Etsy link. SOLD

Mariah was hand painted using oil paints which were allowed to cure. I then hand drew her facial features and painted them in acrylics. Her clothing is upcycled and includes a hand formed bead on her scarf. She is about 30 inches tall. She has big brown light eyes and medium brown soft hair put up in ponytails. Her ribbons match her scarf. The doll she’s holding is not included.

All though Mariah is well put together I don’t consider her a toy. She’s more of a shelf sitter or welcome doll for a novelty shop or for the home of a fine art doll collector.

Handmade Rag Doll Plastic Bag Holder

This doll has been hand stitched and has a dress which doubles as a bag holder for ‘green conscious’ individuals. Her hair is made of soft brown yarn and comes down long to her arms but is currently twisted up. All her accessories such as the 5 paper flowers and gold trim scarf can be removed for a new look.

With peachy soft skin, big green eyes and beautiful brown hair this plastic bag holder doll will surely bring a smile to your face. Her dress is a dark reddish brown and cream checkered pattern. She’ll fit perfectly in a country or modern home.

Recycle Plastic Bag Holder Doll

I wanted something cuter than a regular plastic bag holderÂ so I added an African-American rag doll with angel wings to a bag I already had.Â The doll itself is hand stitched and hand painted. I painted her skin with burnt umber oil paints then allowed it to dry. She was heat treated then sealed. I then added facial features and hair from a doll purchased forever ago. I have to say I like the finished product. I think what I like about her is she has a slight primitive appeal.Â I really like primitive black dolls but for this project I only wanted soft prim.

My plastic bag holder is currently hanging by the door so I can remember to return the bags for recycling when I go back to the store.

Lisa African-American Rag Doll

This one of a kind hand sewn, hand painted African-American (black) rag doll stands 30 inches tall and wears a green and cream home spun dress with red accents. She has two gold ribbons in her long black hair and a red wool beret. Little black patent leather shoes and white socks adorn her feet. A sweet smile and big brown eyes were hand painted to make this doll one special creation.

Note: Because her skin is hand painted she does not have the cuddly feel of most cloth dolls. For this reason she is listed as ornamental, a shelf sitter or bed doll.

Removable clothing
