Three Oceans, Three Pearls

Three Oceans Three Pearlspurple blue
I purchased polymer clay for $1.79 and liquid adobe clay for 90 cents. I then formed the clay, baked it for 20 min at 250 degrees, let it dry, painted it, sealed it and added hooks. These quarter size pearls were created specifically to match the three paintings I called Three Oceans which are shown in the above photograph. The paintings and the medallions have an earthy feel which is exactly what I was going for.

Tulips To Music

Tulips To Music is part of my Flower A Day Project.

On a canvas sheet I printed the music to the song Beautiful by Christina Aguilera. I then painted open tulips in oils, added a few minor details digitally and viola, there you have it, “Tulips To Music.”

One of the details I appreciate about this painting is the hint of a heart in the clouds above the flowers. The oils used really make this painting shine. They were a gift that has been much appreciated.

Spring may be far off but flowers are forever when planted on canvas.

Watch Over Our Children

Copyright 2009-2010 @ Sundrip Journals. All rights reserved.

Watch Over Our ChildrenIt usually doesn’t take me 7 or 8 days to complete one painting but it looks like this one will need even more time. Seven days now but I’m getting closer.

The painting shows a young African-American child walking through a field of sunflowers and wildflowers while being guided by an older Black angel.
Painting Details: The sky and flowing water meet and roll around her skirt into a field of flowers. There are two small butterflies floating above a sunflowers, one single white daisy. The child has small green leaves as trim for her clothing and is holding a tiny little flower.

I believe the final version will make a slight distinction between the sky and water. I may also add a few tiny details to the adult angel but other than that Watch Over Our Children is nearly completed.

Update:

Ah yes, it sometimes takes awhile but the end result is worth it.

Watch Over Our Children (final)

The colors have been changed dramatically as were the flowers but I like this version best.

Garage Sale Gone Wrong

Garage Sale Gone WrongWe all know one, love one, a person who can’t walk away from a garage sale. She’ll turn the car around in the middle of the street or leap over fences to grab a cheap doodad.  There we are spectators in her compulsion. Helpless to stop her we choke on the dust she leaves behind as she dives for that very special doily.  Thirty-five cents, a quarter, the sound of such words makes her drool. Will she ever stop? Is there help for her? Will there ever be a Garage Sale Support Group for people addicted to other people’s junk sitting on the side of the road? If there is such a group surely they can help the woman in this painting who totally lost control when the homeowner extended her sale by one day.

Completed – Tea at My House

The original sketch was done in watercolor but this painting done on 9 x 12 acid free paper is mixed media. In addition to heavily pigmented oil paints I used ink, silk flowers and white lace giving the painting a real life touch. Each silk flower is dotted with metallic gold paint, each white bubble is circled with blue metallic paint.

Tea at My House

You’ll see the stems glow in three layers of green on top of a swirling blue background. The tea pot itself is gold, brown and copper tones with a large pink and white flower. A closer look at the lace reveals bits of purple, pink and different shades of blue. This is a homey painting that would fit nicely in your kitchen or dining area.

More details: Tea at My House is sealed to help preserve the vibrancy of the paint. It is signed and dated on the front. There’s a white boarder which allows for framing making the image size a full 8 x 10 inches.

Ocean Four

A mix of Prussian blue, titanium white, sap green and yellow ochre meet peacefully to create an abstract ocean view.

Ocean Four is the last of it’s series and is painted on an unused fabric softener sheet to create an original pattern which compliments the earth tones.

Flower A Day

I’m enjoying my flower sketches before dinner. I’ll absolutely continue them.

Purple Petal FenceThis sketch shows a house with a purple petal fence and a huge sunflower as a setting sun over a bronze colored house. The original sketch shows much more detail such as small gold flowers on the house and small blue flowers in the sky and even on the purple fence. To finish off the sketch I added a light filter from photoshop.

Medium: Crayola markers w/ water over crayola crayons and metallic gel pens in a 4×4 sketch book. Full image size, 8 inches.

Flowers Before Dinner

Flowers Before DinnerThis is a mixed media painting I did before eating dinner. I started out drawing in crayola crayon then I used crayola markers with water over the crayon. I smoothed here and there then added extra layers of crayon under marker until I was satisfied.

The smooth crayon under layer makes working with markers very easy. Shading is easier as is covering up mistakes. I also like the texture it makes where marker stains the paper but not the crayon. I discovered it’s best to use yellow with green marker or blue marker with yellow in order to get the desired result of green. It’s been fun experimenting with the two mediums.

Flowers Before Dinner is the start of my second sketch diary which has been dedicated to flowers of all kinds.
