Art Title: Tin Man

DETAILS: A silver and black figure poses as water drips over his shoulder. In one hand large fish dangle, the other is to his side and swirls to a close. On his chest is a gold that drips down mixing with silver, blue and black. Though he is the “Tin Man” he nearly hangs as a puppet by strings of color and water.
SIZE: 6 inches by 4 inches with 1/4 inch thickness
Birds on Fallen Trees – 9 x 8 clay and wood sculpture created almost entirely with found items. The cobble stones in clay were found items, the twigs are from 5 fallen trees, the birds are from a recycled art piece, real Pekin duck feathers have been added as well as dried flowers.
When I’m anxious I paint. When I’m anxious I walk. The other day was a walking day. While walking I decided to explore an area struck by last spring’s storms. In that area there are at least 5 trees uprooted. It’s as if they were effortlessly plucked and left on their side. Sad though the sight may sound, nature has created its own art piece. I’ve delayed in posting these pieces because I wasn’t sure how to explain them. I wasn’t sure what to say or if I should say anything at all but I believe I’ve finally found the right mix of words to explain the series of paintings called Cocoon.
First, a little background information: I have Lupus and the symbol for Lupus is the butterfly. Where there’s a butterfly there was once a cocoon. The series focuses on inside the cocoon. The color of the support ribbon for Lupus is purple which is why there are shades of purple here and there in the paintings. Lets move ahead. Truthfully, I’m scared to death about my health. I’m finding more and more that I like abstract paintings. I visit galleries online to see how they’re doing it, how they’re setting themselves free to do their abstract work. I call abstract freedom because when I look at them its almost as if the artist said, forget all that is tangible, all that can be explained away and let me put on canvas my very soul.
Sometimes a girl has to go Avante Garde and that’s exactly what I did with this piece.
This painting called Lucid was created by using wet acrylics allowed to flow into each other to create a surreal, colorful yet shadowy, mysterious atmosphere. The blue face is part of the sky line and everything flows from her. From her head rises white clouds that crack and become mist that surrounds a shadowy black figure which is also her hair. The clouds flow over him, around and above him to form a bare white tree. The white tree and the shadowy figure stand on the a mix of yellow, green and blue earthly shoulders.
Lucid is a small painting at 4 inches by 4 inches. It was painted on textured card stock. Continue reading “Lucid”
This is the third and final piece in the series called Renewed.

Stats: 5×9, acrylic paint, ink, crackle medium. The painting was first hand sealed then given an acrylic over lay seal. She is painted on mulberry paper mounted to an up-cycled foam board. ‘Power’ has been signed on the front and back.
I sometimes like to blog about what I was thinking and where I was headed with a painting. For the most part I was thinking about the serenity prayer while painting ‘Holding Flowers.” I didn’t go as far as to write on the tile itself, “Grant me the serenity to accept” but those very words were on my mind through out the entire creative process.
I wanted to create a surreal, dreamlike moment. I wanted the viewer to feel as if they’re observing a private moment of a woman taking stock of herself, taking a moment to hold on to what she needs and let pass what she doesn’t.
Change feels rigid but its not, its fluid and that’s what I wanted to lines on the painting to be.
That’s what I was thinking and feeling as I created Holding Flowers. She has been painted on a 4 x 2 tile in acrylic and ink.

I had a day of depression and anxiety so I picked up the phone and called a friend. I tearfully explained how I was feeling about my situation with Lupus and Fibromyalgia. In friendship she read to me a scripture from the Bible about how I may be wasting away on the outside but I am being renewed by the spirit from day to day. Her expressions of support were worth their weight in gold.
Several days later I began to sketch and paint the scripture in my art therapy sketchbook. The two pieces became the first in a series that will follow called “Renewed”. Continue reading “Renewed from day to day – No1”
 **SOLD ** I began tearing the wall paper remnants from an old craft table when I thought, this would be fun to paint on, so I did. A New Woman is a romantic, abstract figurative painting with ethnic overtones. It is medium textured and has been painted on pulled, up-cycled wall paper. There are even tiny pieces of tape still stuck to 11 x 7  finished art piece.
The profile figure of a young woman stands in the midst of dripping paint, torn walls and gold. She is painted in turquoise and pink with flicks of color as accents.
What I enjoyed about doing this painting is putting all the tiny little drops, spills and smudges together to form something tangible. The wall paper was splattered with paint from various projects and stripped or cut from mounting other paintings. My new canvas had its own story and a full pallet before becoming A New Woman.
