Some of these dolls look problematic…like black face, even though I’m sure that wasn’t the intention. A Google search took me here and it caught me off guard
Hi Jessica,
It can be uncomfortable for many. I allow you your feelings.
The style is called Black Folk Art and is a legitimate form of art expression for Africans and African descendants.
It is never ok for white people to do this because of the history of black characters in black face meant to demean and dishonor African peoples.
This art doesn’t dishonor anyone it simply has dark skin. The features are not exaggerated at all which is done in black face. They are dressed neatly. The hair is well done, shoes laced up, etc. They are beautiful art dolls with black skin. If it is black skin you object to then shame, if it’s the style then please look again, they are dolls who happen to have dark skin. Both are part of my Black Folk Art Doll Collection.
Thank you for leaving your comment. I hope I was able to at least lesson your concerns that I mock Black people when making some of my dolls.
I hope you will return,
Faith
