Now we’re having fun!
I titled this piece “The Constant” because the wax I used is by a company that I’ve been familiar with since the time I could hold a crayon and color on paper. Crayola is a sure, stable and brilliant wax that performs beautifully with encaustic work.

Title: “The Constant”
Art by: Faith Magdalene Austin
Media: Wax on repurposed wooden board piece
Size: 7 x 6 inches
Finish: signed on the back, sealed, unmounted
Style: Encaustic, Abstract
“The Constant” would look beautiful sitting on a table easel, and is a stunner framed.
I’m addicted to abstract. It’s relaxing. I never thought I’d say that. This piece is a first, a true Sundrip original as I’ve never offered a 100% wax painting. My usual ‘paint outside the lines’ self used a piece of board that was closest to me. I just let go. I arranged the colors where I wanted them and watched them melt. I moved the board around, used my palette knife, a toothpick and cardboard to create the illusions in color.
“The Constant” was an absolute blast to make. The second like it is called “Abstract Fire”. It is wax and acrylic paint on paper. I arranged the wax and allowed it to set. I then layered was and acrylic until the desired surreal effect was present. This mixed media piece is on paper. As you can see, the colors are quite different. The turquoise and yellow make a beautiful mix as it touches rust red and orange with midnight blue.
Art Title: “Encaustic Fire”
Art by: Faith Magdalene Austin
Medium: Wax, cardstock, mounted on black board
Size: 6.5 x 4.5
Finish: signed on the back, sealed, mounted
Style: Encaustic, Abstract original art
As we know, fire will destroy everything in it’s path, but not all fire is destructive. Some fires are restorative in that they clear out the old and allow for new, fresh growth to flourish.
“Abstract Fire” has captured the moment before the fire has been satisfied.
It’s about to quiet itself and let the earth sit quietly
in a tranquil still
until the first blade of green bursts forth,
and all things are new.

There’s one more abstract art with fire as it’s subject. The symbolism is explained as fire being a cleansing force that allows for new growth. I need new ground. I need a cleansing that relieves burdens so tangled that only a massive shift could bolster my spirit, embolden me, to move one foot in front of the other, and find my place.
